Invest in your future

Wildlife Conservation

Includes courses in partnership
with the University of Richmond

Overview

Are you passionate about contributing to anti-poaching efforts? Determined to reduce the destruction of natural habitats? Committed to helping mitigate the negative effects climate change has on wildlife? Join GVI’s Wildlife Conservation Virtual Internship today to gain real experience contributing to the work of NGOs, government organisations and social enterprises that focus on these key issues. You’ll come away with the valuable first-hand insight, practical understanding and professional connections needed to pursue a successful career conserving wildlife.

Project work
Throughout your internship you’ll be completing one project each week that helps a local organisation solve an actual problem. Since we work with real partners, real, valuable projects will be assigned to you. This means that the types of projects you could work on will vary. We aim to match you as closely as possible with an organisation and a task that aligns with your personal career goals. See below for some of the projects you could work on during your internship.
Breeding and release plan for endangered turtles and tortoises

Through research and development we create an innovative breeding and release strategy for three remarkable species: elongated tortoises, yellow-headed temple turtles and keeled box turtles.

Rhino conservation: social media planning and implementation

Research, planning and execution of a fundraising action plan. Use social media as the primary platform to promote and support the conservation of rhinos and other endangered species in the Greater Kruger region.

Camera trap analysis and data entry to EarthRanger

Analyse footage from camera traps and update EarthRanger with location data from the camera traps, to help monitor rhino movements and learn more about the behaviours of these endangered species.
